Nanotubes May Improve Solar Energy Harvesting View Articles
eldavojohn writes "Scientists are hoping that the `coaxial cable` style nanotube they developed will resolve energy issues that come with converting sunlight to energy. The plants currently have us beat in this department but research is discovering new ways to eliminate inefficiencies in transferring photons to energy. Traditional methods involve exciting electrons to the point of jumping to a higher state which leaves `holes.` Unfortunately, these electrons and holes remain in the same regions and therefore tend to recombine. The new nanotubes hope to route these excited electrons off in the same way a coaxial cable allows a return route for electrons. End result is fewer electrons settling back into their holes once they are elevated out of them yielding a higher return in energy."Read more of this story at Slashdot.

Renewable Energy Markets Worldwide Driven by Climate Change, Says Swiss Study View Articles
The generation and storage of renewable energy will be the fastest growing sector in energy market over the next 20 years, says a recent report from Helmut Kaiser Consultancy of Zurich.
How does Energy Efficiency Relate to Renewable Energy? View Articles
There is a lot happening in renewable energy right now, which is great and what we need. But what about conservation? ... Are there any studies showing how much we could save and at what cost if we insulated all the uninsulated houses and double-paned all the windows and sealed all the air leaks? In the same vein what about solar thermal? It`s much more cost effective than solar electricity but not pushed nearly so hard, or so it seems. -- Jack M., Bellingham, WA
Solar PV Takes Off at U.S. Air Force Base View Articles
Much like the powerful message photovoltaic (PV) installations planned for commercial stores such as Target and Wal-Mart send to the public about the practical benefits of solar power, large-scale projects that involve the U.S. military also have the potential to lead to the widespread use of renewable energy at the "civilian" level.
Officials mark start of construction of big solar array at Nellis View Articles
"I`ve always looked at solar as an investment in our future." Officials marked the start of construction Monday on a solar power generation station designed to provide about a quarter of the electricity needed by Nellis Air Force Base. via North County Times
Spotlight on Fuel Cell Early Markets 2007 Pre-conference Seminar View Articles
Why are fuel cells and hydrogen considered a necessary part of a sustainable energy strategy? Answering this question will be the central theme of "The Role of Hydrogen & Fuel Cells in Future Energy Markets" - a three-hour intensive workshop to be held on 11 June at the Brussels Marriott Hotel in Brussels, Belgium. This workshop will precede one-and-a-half days of expert presentations as part of IntertechPira and Core Technology Ventures` Fuel Cell Early Markets 2007: Policy, Finance, & Applications.
Alternative Energy Store Offers Introduction to Photovoltaics Workshop to Public View Articles
Alternative Energy Store introducing its first in a series of three workshops on solar electric system design and installation. These courses will take interested students from the basics of how solar electric systems work and are designed to advanced theory and actual hands on installation.
