New Virginia Law Includes Green Power Requirement View Articles
A new law that "re-regulates" Virginia`s retail electricity industry includes a provision for the state`s electricity customers to have a 100% renewable energy purchase option available to them by the end of 2008. If a utility chooses not to offer a program, its customers will be permitted to purchase green power from any licensed retail supplier. The bill also includes goals for the state`s utilities to supply a percentage of their electricity sales from renewable energy sources.
