Faster Catalysts Improve Hydrogen Generation View Articles
Researchers describe progress on technology for storing energy in the form of hydrogen fuel. Anyone relying entirely on solar power or wind for electricity--say, in a remote location cut off from the grid--could use a cheap way to store power for use at night or when the wind isn`t blowing. Today at the American Chemical Society meeting in Boston, researchers announced progress on one option: using electricity from solar panels or other sources to split water, producing hydrogen fuel that can be used to produce electricity anytime by means of a fuel cell or generator.
GOP lawmaker blocks vote on Mass. wind power bill View Articles
A Republican lawmaker has blocked a final vote in the Massachusetts Senate on a bill supporters say would streamline the siting of wind power facilities.
IREC Announces Solar Licensing Database View Articles
The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), supported by the US Department of Energy (DOE), has created a Solar Licensing Database as a resource for policy makers, practitioners, consumers, and anyone else looking for solar licensing information in the U.S. The state-by-state information offers a handy comparison for reviewing the different approaches across state lines, and identifies various practices for regulating the solar installation industry.
Exhibitor Opportunities Now Available for the 2011 Clean Energy Workforce Education Conference View Articles
The Clean Energy Workforce Education Conference (CEWEC) brings together innovative green workforce trainers, and offers the most current information on instructional strategies, curricula development, credentialing, and best practices for training in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields.
Utility-Scale Geothermal Turns 50 View Articles
Renewables are often seen as "new." In fact, they are the original energies. Wind, water, biomass and the earth`s heat have been used for thousands of years. Being able to harness those resources on a mass-scale is what`s new.
Kansas Professor Gets $2M Renewable Energy Grant View Articles
The four-year grant from the National Science Foundation was awarded to Trun Van Nguyen, a professor of chemical and petroleum engineering.
Classroom science project inspires Union City to think big View Articles
UNION CITY, Ind. -- High school science teacher John Zakelj was trying to excite his students about science and math when he hit on the idea of putting up a small wind turbine outside the classroom.
Solar CEO sees $200M in revenue View Articles
Solar power developer American Capital Energy Inc. expects to achieve $200 million in revenue in 2010, nearly three times the revenue of 2009, CEO Tom Hunton said.
New CIGS Solar Cell Efficiency Record View Articles
Researchers from the Germany Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) have broken a new efficiency record for thin-film copper indium gallium diselenide solar cells.
OPEL International Files Second Quarter 2010 Financials View Articles
Shelton, CT and Toronto, ON, August 24, 2010 – OPEL International Inc. (TSX-V: OPL) ("OPEL" or "the Company"), a leading global supplier of high concentration photovoltaic ("HCPV") solar panels and other solar products, including ground-based and rooftop tracker systems, today announced the filing on SEDAR of its Financial Statements and the Management`s Discussion and Analysis ("MD&A") for the quarter ended June 30, 2010 (collectively the "Financials").
Estimating Forward REC Price Curves View Articles
Almost all of today`s renewable energy projects rely on regulatory financial incentives in order to make investment returns sufficiently attractive. Some incentives, such as rebates and tax credits, have known monetary value and are therefore rather easily incorporated in financial pro formas. Other incentives, namely renewable energy certificates (commonly known as "RECs") used for compliance with renewable portfolio standards (RPS), are inherently variable and therefore require exogenous methods to determine their value. Because RECs can be unbundled from the underlying renewable power and sold to utilities with renewable energy obligations, they are commodities subject to a variety of market forces that impact their value.
Finding the Renewable Workforce: The Value of Ex-Military Hires View Articles
The demand for wind power is at an all-time high. Just about every year, the wind sets a new record, recently putting close to 10 GW a year online. Yet it isn`t enough. States continue to set higher and higher renewable portfolio standards (RPS). The problem is that there is already a shortage of qualified wind technicians, managers and general staff. So where are the resources going to come from to fulfill an ever-expanding demand–a shortfall of literally millions of jobs–within a decade or so?
